One extricated, two sent to hospital after collision

Shuniah (December 19, 2017) – At approximately 9:30pm on Monday, December 18, 2017, Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services (SFES) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a transport and a car on Highway 11/17 near Mirror Lake.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported that air bags were deployed and that the passenger was stuck in the vehicle and required extrication. Fire crews used hydraulic extrication equipment to free the passenger and bring them to a waiting ambulance with both occupants taken to hospital.

Fifteen SFES firefighters, two Pass Lake Firefighters, Ontario Provincial Police, and two Superior North EMS ambulances responded to the call.  All SFES units were back in service at 11:23pm.

SFES would like to remind the travelling public to use caution while driving in poor weather conditions and allow for extra time or delay travel until conditions improve.
