From the Ministry of Natural Resources:
Due to current conditions, this website (ontario.ca/forestfire) will be updated once a week, on Mondays, until such time more frequent updates are warranted.
It’s been a long, cold, snowy winter across northern Ontario. However, despite the current winter-like conditions, April 1st marks the official start to the Ontario forest fire season within the Fire Region as set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario.
A heavy blanket of snow and ice remain on the landscape and waterways across northern Ontario and the below seasonal temperatures and winter-like conditions are delaying any possibility of spring fires across most of the province.
Some seasonal staff such as Crew Leaders are back to work and starting to complete mandatory spring training, while other seasonal staff contracts will be delayed due to the present and expected weather conditions. Aircraft, including the CL-415 Waterbombers, and equipment are being readied for service.
The Forest Fire Rating on the sidebar on our site may show “No Data Available” from time to time until the season gets futher underway. This is due to the dependancy on the data that is provided by the MNR.
